Volunteer

Once you have volunteered you won’t be the same again!

Volunteer

Making a decision to volunteer is a personal one, be it a sense of social responsibility; personal growth; a way to gain a new perspective of the world; or a desire to learn about a new country and culture. Whatever your reasons, it is a great way to contribute and support local communities.

Calling for Active Retirees – an opportunity to travel to a wonderful destination and at the same time share your experiences and skills with a private, not for profit community based organisation.

For many, retirement has become an extremely active phase of life in which many seniors finally have time to devote to causes and interests that may have previously taken a backseat to careers or family obligations. If you are brimming with energy, life experience and professional knowledge and would like to donate your time as a volunteer in one of our programs we would love to hear from you. APPLY NOW

‘When I retired from the corporate world several years ago I had a sense of wanting to do something worthwhile and meaningful as I have been very fortunate in my life.

I had always thought I would love to do volunteer work even though I was not sure if I would be any good.  Using your skills in the corporate world is a different environment to working with not for profit community organisations. It requires new skills and often a change in attitude.  So, in 2008 I combined my love of travelling and found my way to Kawempe Home Care. It was an amazing experience to meet people who really make a difference to the lives of people in their community.

What do I think makes a good volunteer? You need to be flexible, adaptable, willing to learn and share, resilient particularly in times of difficulty and respectful of the rights, dignity and culture of others.

I have volunteered 4 times and each time I feel more at home with this wonderful team of people who I have so much respect and admiration for and I have never had more “job” satisfaction than when working at KHC.

I certainly get more from the experience than they do!’     Carol  (Age 64)

Why Kawempe Home Care (KHC)?

KHC programs  are run at a local level and we rely solely on charitable funding and volunteer contributions. Without this help the organisation would not be able to provide the valuable services we do for our disadvantaged clients in the community. Our projects are in need of your transferable skills. If you believe you can share your skills we would love to hear from you.

Requirements for volunteering
