Goodbye to a mentor, leader and just an amazing person.

“I am very proud of the work our team at KHC has done throughout this year, particularly under extremely difficult circumstances. Especially, when we recently had to say goodbye to a man that we greatly admired, Dr. Samuel Guma.”

Dr. Samuel Guma. 1974-2023. RIP

Over the past few days much has been said about the impact that Dr, Sam had on so many people’s lives. He strongly believed that medical support needed to be accessible to all and through the KHC clinics and home visits for those patients who were bed ridden, this was possible. The New Hope Children’s hostel for children with cancer is testimony to how we are able to make a difference.

The Palliative Care Association of Uganda extolled Dr. Sam for playing such a remarkable role in improving the cancer survival rate amongst children with cancer.

Dr Sam was a leader who led by example and his ability to listen and counsel patients and staff was appreciated. His KHC family will be forever grateful that they had the privilege of knowing him and working with him.

Our prayers and love go out to his wife Gloria and her sons and to the family and friends.

Goodbye friend you will be greatly missed. Each of us is the better for knowing you.

Acting Executive Director

“I would also like to acknowledge the great support and guidance that we received from the KHC Board members, led by the Chairman Assoc. Professor Victor Musiime throughout the year. We deeply appreciate their commitment and enthusiasm. And if it weren’t for the dedicated KHC management, staff and community volunteers, who work tirelessly for our clients, KHC would not be able to provide our community with the holistic support they desperately need.

Underpinning this wonderful team is you our partners and friends who continue to support the work we do. Thank you and God Bless.”

Christmas signifies a time of hope, peace and love.

As 2023 draws to a close it may feel overwhelming, with many families and nations, torn apart by war and unrest. People are longing for peace. Let us pray that the leaders listen to the people.

In every nation there are people who could do with a helping hand, they may be homeless, refugees, families struggling to put food on the table etc. It can be difficult to know how to help people who are in need but we can each do something to support these people by reaching out to your local charities and find out how you can make a difference to someone’s Christmas this year.

It is important to remember Christmas signifies a time of hope, peace and love.

New Hope Children’s Hostel Christmas Food Drive

We also have seen an increase in the number of families who need our help. Normally the hostel accommodates 30 children and their caregivers and we are currently supporting 40.

We are seeking help to have enough food items to get us through the festive season. Unfortunately, cancer does not take a holiday and many of our children will still be at the hostel during the Christmas season as they need to keep up their cancer treatment.

If you would like to help us out and are not a local person, you can make a donation through GlobalGiving:  Help Poor Children with Cancer to Access Treatment – GlobalGiving

We are Blessed to have such wonderful supporters.

Yes, it has been a tough year and Kawempe Home Care is very grateful to those who have supported us throughout the year.

We have received tremendous local support of in-kind donations especially food items, for the children at the New Hope Children’s hostel from local church groups, individuals, schools, associations and corporates.

We are also grateful to our international sponsors who provide school fees for over 45 children on our School Fees program.

Our GlobalGiving partner continues to provide support through their campaigns throughout the year and we are very grateful to our friends for donating to these campaigns.

Thank you for being there for our clients.

A great idea for someone who is hard to buy for!

While we enjoy giving gifts and receiving them, there is now so much ‘stuff’ that we are given and we don’t use or use once and forget about it.  Why don’t we shake things up this festive period?

Give a gift that makes a difference, and that people will appreciate it as it will be a gift that keeps on giving.

You can purchase a Gift Card through GlobalGiving and the options are:

  • Make a donation in honour of someone special and send them a note and if you wish to support our children with cancer, the project name is “Helping poor children with cancer to access treatment.”
  • Or buy a Gift Card and the recipient can redeem it to a project that matters to them. Hopefully our project!

There is a lot of good will still in the world and we must have faith that people will help and support each other to make our world a safer and healthier planet in 2024.

Until next year!

  1. It was a privilege to work with Dr.Sam and his KHC team. I got to know him as a very patient, hardworking and thoughtful man. I wish his family and his KHC Team a lot of strength and love during this difficult time. Please stay strong an continue your work for the patients he cared so much for. His passing is a great loss.

  2. Dr Sam was a very great man, he sacrificed his clinic to take care of the patients, he was a committed man, I have worked with Dr Sam for over 16years as a co-founder for Kawempe Home Care, but he was a good person. We commit ourselves to continue working hard to provide quality health care for our patients.
“Dr Sam may your soul rest in peace”.
    We shall miss him greatly.
    Cheers

  3. Sam was such an amazing person and an inspiration to us all. As a doctor and public health specialist, I’d like to say he was also professionally outstanding, it was an honour to work with him and the amazing KHC clinic and volunteer health team.

  4. I had the privilege of knowing and working as a volunteer with Dr Sam for the past 14 years. I learnt a lot from him and we often enjoyed conversations that covered many topics. Not that we agreed on everything. I will miss you Sam.
